T___ the Miracle

Another great week in T-town!  I feel like I have been here my whole mission though....you are so right Dad!!

Miracles are alive here though yall! And this week there was a miracle! And his name is Ted.
After Sister Merrill and I got done emailing last Pday, we decided to get some frozen yogurt.  We were talking to the cashier about our missions when all the sudden this guy in the store shouted: "Wait ya’ll are Mormons?! Tell me about eh spirit world!"

We both assumed the typical bash, but he genuinely wanted to know.  He said that he knew about baptisms for the dead and that he wanted to be baptized for his aunt so that she could be saved.  We told him he would also have to be baptized before he could be baptized for her, and he was all for it!  He told us that he had been taught by some Elders in Montgomery, AL and that he had just recently lost contact with them! Since then we have met almost every day and have had three lessons. He came to church yesterday, and he even took us out to eat one night! He is golden.  Nothing short of a miracle!!!

After that the week kind of plummeted a bit.  We lost 3 of our 5 super solid investigators....two of which were S_____ and R_____.   So sad!  But I still love them so much! R____ even taught me some German and fed us some real German food!  After our last lesson with them we were driving home with a member we had gone with.  This was her first time out with the missionaries and she just started crying! She was so sad that S______ and R______  weren't going to accept the gospel into their lives.  Welcome to our lives Sister Roy:(  However sad it was, I know the Lord is making room for us to teach people who are really ready for the message we carry. Planting seeds are just as important as reaping what we sow!  I often find peace in one of my favorite verses! Alma 26: 27 says: "Now when our hearts were depressed, and we were about to turn‍ back, behold, the Lord comforted‍ us, and said: Go amongst thy brethren, the Lamanites, and bear with patience‍ thine afflictions, and I will give unto you success."

Remember when I was talking about how the mission is the highest of highs and the lowest of lows within just days?? Yep yep yep!

We had a wonderful opportunity last Tuesday to go to the Birmingham Temple.  I was reading in D&C 109:22-23 which says 22 And we ask thee, Holy Father, that thy servants may go forth from this house armed with thy power, and that thy name‍ may be upon them, and thy glory be round about them, and thine angels‍ have charge over them;
23 And from this place they may bear exceedingly great and glorious tidings, in truth, unto the ends‍ of the earth, that they may know that this is thy work, and that thou hast put forth thy hand, to fulfil that which thou hast spoken by the mouths of the prophets, concerning the last days
This can be for both missionaries and members alike.  When we go to the temple we receive power!
I said goodbye to President and Sister Hanks at the Temple.  They leave Alabama tomorrow. I will forever be grateful to my Father in Heaven for the friendship, example, and leadership they have shown me.  I love Him dearly! And  will never forget the things He has taught me.

I love being a missionary, being a servant of the Lord.!!! I love this gospel.  God has restored his Church organization in these days. The Book of Mormon and The Bible stand as witnesses and testaments of the truth. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Kingdom of God on Earth. We are led by prophets and revelation and the opportunity is before us to share that testimony with the world.  We represent the Lord Jesus Christ each day.  So lets GO yall!!! Lets be valiant servants and forever be Steadfast in Christ.

Love all you tons! Have a great week!!

Goodbye Athens, HELLO TUSCALOOSA

Holaaaaa!!

TRANSFERS!  Drum roll please??  I am getting transferred to Tuscaloosa ALABAMA to serve as an STL! My new companion will be Sister Merrill who is an English Sister.  I don't know her very well but she is new has only has  maybe 6 months in the mission! But I hear she is a solid missionary and I am SO EXCITEDDDD.  Tuscaloosa has been a dream area for me since the beginning so I am so excited to serve the people there and find some elect folks!  I am really nervous but excited and grateful for this opportunity to serve other missionaries!  I have loved my time in Athens and I am so sad to leave but I have felt that my time here is finished.  And Sister Anderson is training!!  I know she will rock it.

Today for Pday we went to the US Space and Rocket Center, again! haha I went with my zone in HSV but we decided to go again here in Madison for our last Zone activity, so for that reason I don’t have too much time to email so I am sorry!!

Sister Anderson and I started an English class in Athens, we have been inviting EVERY Hispanic we see and talking to everyone!  And we had a few people show up so it was awesome! While finding people to invite we met an elect guy named Rigo!  He is from Mexico and is really interested in the gospel! Because he is Hispanic we invited him to the Huntsville branch activity last Saturday and we went with them!  It was SO FUN.  I got to see my family from the Branch and it was so fun.  Rigo got to meet all of them and it was just a blast!  I miss that place!

We had Zone training this past week and it was President Hanks' last training!   He has such a strong testimony and lives it everyday and while being our mission president has just shared bits and pieces with us.

EMMAUS EXPERIENCE:
It is small but it was a tender mercy from my Heavenly Father!  Tracting last week in the blazing hot sun we met an older lady, J____.  She was kind of rude and said right then was a bad time but when we asked if we could come back later she said okay.  We both thought nothing of it.  But when we were in the area this last week we stopped by and she let us in and was so sweet! We had a wonderful lesson on the Restoration of the Gospel and the convincing evidence of the Book of Mormon she was so accepting and asked us to return and share more.  YAY J____!!  This was small.  But big to us! We never know who the Lord is preparing and who's heart he is softening.  I was so grateful for her openness and her inviting spirit that could let the Holy Ghost enter her home.  I love this work.

It truly is incredible as I look at the Athens ward my heart just melts! I have such love for these people.  They are true disciples of Christ that have showed me so much.  Sister Harris, the Relief Society President, is one of the most giving and selfless and most "Arrows Out" woman I know. I will NEVER forget her eagerness to serve and help anyone she can. We had dinner with them this past week and I am so sad to leave them and their wonderful spirit I have been so fortunate to have witnessed.

On to the next chapter!  Area number 3!  I am so excited for what the future holds and what I want more than anything is to be the instrument the Lord needs me to be and work my very hardest.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I came on a mission BUT I AM SURE GLAD I DID. I know this is the Lord's work and he is at the head of this church. I love my mission!

I love you all!! Have a great week and stay STEADFAST IN CHRIST.

con mucho amor,

900 Hargrove Rd. #190
Tusaloosa, AL 35401
SEND ME SOME LOVE!!!

Wednesday was Transfers!  I said a sad goodbye to Sister Anderson and a wonderful hello to Sister Merrill!! And she is literally SO adorable.  I love her!! she is from Draper UT and has been on her mission for 6 months!  T-town is her 2nd area.  She served in Florence, AL (north west AL) for her first area.  She is the 5th out of 6 kids!  And we are already bffs.  We work well together and are excited to serve together!!
President and Sister Hanks leave Alabama after completing their 3 year mission next week on the 28th of June :(  Today is our last email to him.  So Transfers on Wednesday was the last training he gave to a large group of missionaries.  He was a blubbering boob! I saw a lot of missionaries I had served with including Sister Thompson and Sister Mennenga who headed home that day!

We are teaching some amazing people here too!  One in particular is Rick!  Rick is married to Vanessa who was baptized almost a year ago and is SO SOLID.  Oh my word, I love her!  I have only met her once and she should already be a Relief Society President... Rick has a baptismal date for July 9th!  At first he was not interested at all in joining the church but slowly, after some time, the Lord softened his heart and he let the gospel into his life and has not looked back.  Wednesday night right after Transfers, we taught him, with his wife and our WML, Brother Corbridge, Tithing/Fast Offerings and Sabbath Day observance.  We recently committed him and Vanessa to read the Book of Mormon together as a couple and pray with one another.  And you better believe Vanessa was making that happen!  He told us that he feels closer to Vanessa as a couple and that just warmed my heart.  Taking the lessons and making this commitment to be baptized is extremely out of his comfort zone but he has such a desire!  The Lord is truly preparing people to hear this wonderful gospel and accept it into their hearts.  Vanessa is on cloud nine watching Rick go through the same steps that she did just a short year ago.

We are also teaching Telisa!  Telisa is in her mid 40s and is very open about the gospel and learning!  Before, Sis Merrill told me that she told them she's not very interested in joining but enjoys learning about what we believe.  We had an appointment with her and had an AMAZING lesson. Sister Merrill and I taught her the Plan of Salvation and she really opened up to us about her past and her real down to the core beliefs.  Everything we testified of and taught her, she believed, 100%.  We invited her to be baptized and she said yes!!  She was so happy and excited and told us she feels this is right.  YES TELISA YES!!!

Also our Investigators Solomge and Rudolf came to church yesterday! Solomge is from Brazil and Rudolph is from South East Germany and has such a thick accent.  Solomge absolutely loved it an made friends instantly.  But we aren't sure how Rudolf felt about it, but we will find out when we see them on Friday!

Sister Merrill and I have been working hard and laughing even harder.  I already know this is going to be an amazing transfer.

This work is the Lords!!
I am so grateful to be apart of it especially in the BEST MISSION EVER.  All I strive and will continue to strive for is to be a worthy, obedient, instrument in his hands.  I want to be someone that He can count on.  I love this work and I absolutely LOVE being a missionary.

Stay Steadfast in Christ!!

We went to go contact a media referral way out in the boonies and it was SO SCARY.  This house was in the middle of a jungle and was the creepiest thing you've ever seen.  There were raging wolf dog things that were trying to kill us and we had to chop down some bamboo to get to the house...But don't you folks worry! We were there to deliver a Book of Mormon so the spirit of the Lord was with us and we survived!

Saw this cute gem on the way out from our car wash.

GOD PLEASE HELP ME BE SUPERWOMAN

June 6, 2016

HEY Y'ALL. This last week FLEW by. Things are good here in the south! It's getting HOT and HUMID. Whoa. It's hitting me in the face and VERY smothering, like cheese on a burrito.  MY HAIR IS CRAY. And there is no point to makeup. Because it just melts off.  And grey shows sweat really bad so its not a good color right now. hahahaha

Sometimes life is rough as a missionary because alot of people really don’t like you.  Bashing on bashing on bashing is what it seemed like this week!  I feel as though I am a pretty calm person but after a couple of these instances I was fed up! And I learned that sometimes it’s hard to love everyone! Especially when they are putting everything you know to be true and hold dear to your heart down in the dirt like its trash.   I was really trying to find what the Lord wanted me to learn from these experiences.   My thoughts turned to Alma chapter 26 where in verse 26 and 27 it talks about it.  It says,
"But behold, my beloved brethren, we came into the wilderness not with the intent to destroy our brethren, but with the intent that perhaps we might save some few of their souls.  (27) Now when our hearts were depressed, and we were about to turn back, behold the Lord comforted us, and said:  Go amongst thy brethren, the Lamanites, and bear with patience thine afflictions, and I will give unto you success."
Then in 37 at the end of the chapter " God is mindful of every people, whatsoever land they may be in"

PATIENCE. I need patience! God knows the effort we are putting in and knows what the outcome is now.  It was amazing to see the Lord blessing us in ways that we weren't even thinking of.  As missionaries we put so much work into the "X"category and then get blessed in "Y" category.  For example, we were with a member this past week when while we were on our way to do some service we saw a lady walking on the side of the road with her son.  We stopped and asked if she needed anything.  She told us she was walking to the gas station to get gas for her car.  The member was so sweet and gave her a ride with us and even paid for her gas.  This lady was SO shocked by this generous act and was just in awe.  By the end of our interaction with her she was happy and smiling and had tears in her eyes. We told her what church we were from and what we do as missionaries.  She gave us her number and we set up a time we could go meet with her and told us she wants to come back to church and that this was her sign from God.  GOD IS SO GOOD YALL. This was just a small way that God showed us that he is there and that he knows us!  God knew exactly what this women needed right at that specific time and we listened to the promptings of the Holy Ghost to help her in need.

We had dinner with the Hunters in the ward, the family that fed us goat and squirrel, and it was awesome, I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.  They are the exact opposite of your average mormon family and we had an awesome conversation with them about the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  Brother Hunter put a drop of oil on each of me and Sister Anderson's finger and told us it was oil from an olive that was in the Garden of Gethsemane, where Christ suffered for our sins.  HOW COOL IS THAT. It  seeped into our skin and it was so cool!  If Christ suffered all that for each one of us what then can we do for HIM?

J**** our Yoga obsessed grandma, bff, is doing well!!  We taught her the Gospel of Jesus Christ and she loved it.  However she is not ready for baptism.  She HATES committing to things so she did not want to commit to baptism right now.  Especially now because she is overloaded with life and everything. In the closing prayer she prayed and asked (screaming) "GOD PLEASE HELP ME BE SUPERWOMAN AND TO READ THE BOOKA MORMON" hahaha We just testified to her that as she continues to learn and read and come to church she will want to make that decision  and to have faith in her Heavenly Father as she prays to know if that is the right path for her to follow. SO PRAY FOR JOANNA. To recognize an answer and to have the faith to follow through!!!
My life lesson that I learned is that we are making differences! That God is using us even when we may feel useless. People's lives are changing.  We just need to testify and challenge boldly with the spirit.  I love the Lord.  I love this work and I am in love with this gospel.

I love you all so much and am so thankful for my life.  My life rocks.
