May 31, 2016

What a week!!! Happy Memorial Day yesterday! Because it was Memorial day we went out and worked because everyone was off and so it was a perfect day to be a missionary! For that reason today is our Pday.
IT IS HOT HOT HOT.  Officially summer and it hit us in the face like a ton of bricks. Hello to short sleeves, sumo hair buns, and sweat soaked backs.
This week was FULL of so many things.  I want to tell yall so many things but I am afraid I won't have time! So buckle up folks and get ready for some stories of the missionary life.

First off I will tell you about E***!  E*** is 24 years old, married, with 2 little girls!  She is really interested in the gospel and we have been teaching her for maybe 2 weeks.  She is SO SOLID.  When we were teaching her the Restoration we were explaining that the Lord took the Priesthood power away from the earth because the people were becoming wicked.  All she had to say was, "OH I do not doubt that! People are awful!!"  She is so cute! We had her read Alma 32 about faith before we saw her the next time and she loved it!!  Just devoured it.  She told us that recently she has been really wanting to paint a tree in her girls play room and she didn't know why.  But when she read Alma 32 about the seed and nourishing our faith, she knew that was exactly the reason!  She pays tribute to Alma for her "spiritual prompting" haha
One of my BHAGS for my mission (Big Hairy Audacious Goals from Phanks) is to bring a family into the gospel.  THIS IS MY FAMILY!  They have so much potential I just love them.

Do yall remember B*****??  She was our Miracle May investigator that kinda disappeared.....Her phone shut off and everytime we go over to check up on her or anything, she is gone.  We have been praying to find her but maybe she moved??? We have no idea! Which is so sad!!

This past week Sister Anderson and I went tracting for quite a bit.  And the excuses that we heard that day.....holy moly.  We got bashed a few times too.  We were laughing Alllll dayyy at the things people would say to us.

On Thursday we went on exchanges and I went to Madison with Sister Pierson.  We biked most of the day and I swear I sweated a couple gallons.  We first visited an older Less Active with some health problems.  When she answered the door we saw a huge bruise  under her chin and dried blood under her nose.  She had fallen earlier that morning and was in really bad shape.  It was a miracle she answered the door when we came.  We helped her walk aback to her bed because she was so imbalanced and dizzy.  It was so scary!  We called her daughter, fixed her some food, cleaned up her house, and read from the Book of Mormon with her.  It was really cool to see that God truly knows us and knows what we are going through and that He lead us there at exactly the right time to help her.

We also visited a potential investigator named L***.  She is a super old lady who chews tobacco and she is really really deaf.  She cannot hear a thing!  And if you mumble at all she gets so dang mad and says " Now don't make me pop ya one now ya hear!"  She was SO FUNNY.  She has been reading the Book of Mormon too and really likes it but was really confused when we told her Joseph Smith wasn't in the Bible.  Her great granddaughter was there too and was really interested in taking the discussions!  She really wants to come to churchthis Sunday!.  As we were leaving Leo got really upset when she found out I am a missionary in Athens and probably wont be back to see her because we were on exchanges.  She threatened to send the police after me in Athens if I didn't come back and visit her hahaha

J*****!  Remember I told yall about a lady who came and knocked on the church door last week while we were emailing?  And we just happened to tract into her that day?  Well Joanna is still awesome!! She has been reading the Book of Mormon and absolutley LOVES Joseph Smith.  She says she can totally relate to him  and just loves his yearning to not only do what is right but to learn the truth.  Joanna is all about knowledge and learning and is very open.  She is OBSESSED and I mean 120% obsessed with Yoga.  She is 76 years old and is all about finding your cosmic conscience and stuff.  She has a thousand books by Yogananda, the guy who invented Yoga and somehow always brings the discussion back to yoga.  Its an everyday struggle for us to keep the topic of conversation away from Yoga.  But we realized yesterday that if it helps her understand the gospel then we'll just run with it haha.  The past two Pdays we have gone to the wellness center in town and done a yoga class with her and lemme tell ya..it was awesome hahaha I thoroughly enjoyed it even though I am the most unflexible person on the planet.  I had a hard time looking at Sister Anderson thorought the class and not bursting out laughing because we were the youngest people in this class by at least 40 years.  Because I enjoyed it so much Joanna gave me one of her Yoga books to study up and get better hahaha who knows, I may be a yogini by the time I come home from the mission (yogini = female yoga person)

I have been thinking alot lately about the words "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times"... Looking back on life before the mission I feel like there were definitely "best times" and "worst times"  and they came at separate times.  I never really saw the two come together at the same time until I became a missionary.  There have been a fair share of times where I have felt on top of the world, and lower than the dust of the earth- sometimes within 20 minutes of each other!
Through those experiences, I can promise anyone and everyone that no matter where you're at in life, no matter how you feel today or tomorrow, no matter how high or how low you think you are-  the Atonement of Jesus Christ takes you where you are and lifts you.  It makes the good times better, and the bad times okay.  The more I've learned about it, the more I realize that its the power that has kept me going from day to day.  It gives purpose to what me and every other missionary does every day- it gives purpose to waking up in the morning, studying, talking to people, serving others, experiencing hard times and weaknesses, feeling inadequate, overcoming fears and doubts, and most importantly- helping people begin their journey to become more like their Father in Heaven.

Ill end with my favorite scripture right now!
"...What doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" (Micah 6:8)

This is His church.  It is true.  His gospel is perfect.  I LOVE IT.

I got a watermelon for my birthday from Sister Anderson!! So we ate the whole thing in one sitting it was rough!

In celebration of my 9 month mark! hahaha

This is a Less Active we have been working with.  We love her!! She is the kindest and most sweetest human alive.  She said to us "I just love being a Mormon, it just tickles me to death!"

This is Alabama in a picture.  Wild cats everywhere.

ALOOOHAAA!

And another one bites the dust. I am officially half way through my mission!!! 9 months!!  Where does the time go? I feel like it was just the other day that I was leaving Mom and Dad at the airport to go to Mexico.  My mission is something very sacred and special to me.  I have absolutely LOVED the past 9 months.  It has been extremely difficult.  But I wouldn't trade it for the world.  I have grown so much.  Learned so much about myself, and learned to really focus on others around me, and learned so much about my Savior Jesus Christ. Who He is to me personally and how I can be more like Him and help others come unto Him.  Best 9 months ever. I LOVE ALABAMA.

This week has been incredible.  SERIOUSLY.  Miracles out the wazoo!!

One was last week on Monday.  We were tracting and one of the first doors we knocked was a lady named J*****.  She opened the door, looked at us with a confused look and then exclaimed " Oh Mormons! Come on in!"   She knew sister missionaries from long ago and just adored them.  She told us that she knew we were sent from God to her.  She is an older lady and just a hoot.  Earlier that day while we were emailing at the church Sister Anderson and I heard  someone trying to come into the building.  We both didn't know if it was the wind or not so we just let it be.  Turns out it was J*****! She told us that she was at our church earlier that day trying to find someone to talk to Family History about.  It was no coincidence that we were in her apartment complex that evening tracting.

Another Miracle!  I got a call this last week from one of my past companions, Sister Mitchell (my first trainee)   telling me that a guy that she and I found forever and a half ago in Huntsville got baptized a few weeks ago....areyoukidding....His name is **** and this guy was a trainwreck too! Smoking while we were talking and not interested at all.  We gave him as a referral to the Elders in the area just because he said we could come back and he has completely turned his life around.  Clean cut, attending YSA activities and holds a calling.  A testimony builder to me of what happens when you talk to everyone no matter their circumstance.  God truly has a plan.  And he uses us to plant seeds.  We are all a team. What is going to happen to himin 15 years?  #marriedinthetempleandkidsonmissions  hahaha just a cool experience. I love this work with all that is in me!

Sister Anderson and I have been working really really hard recently and we are seeing so many amazing miracles from it.  We have investigators coming out of the woodworks! Through referrals and through our own efforts.  We have had a lot of success this week with finding new people to teach and have really had a stellar week!!!! WE ARE ON CLOUD 9.  We found taught some amazing people that are truly ready and open to this gospel. One of which is R******!  She is this big black girl that we met in Walmart! (STORE CONTACTING WORKS:)  She is so awesome.  She is very smart and intelligent and loves hearing about the Book of Mormon. I already love her so much!!!  Her and so many more.  Just flocking to us!

This past Wednesday we had Zone Conference! We spent the night in Huntsville since Madison is a good ways away from Athens.  Huntsville! My old stopping grounds! It was good to visit.  Right now one of my favorite sisters in the mission is serving there and I just LOVE HER. Sister Hubbard!  I want so badly to be companions with her but she goes home next transfer!  But anyways-President Hanks came to Madison along with all the senior couples and APs.  It was an AWESOME Conference.  Really just inspiring and amazing. That day was by far one of the best days on my mission.   I have such a firm testimony of something someone told me in the MTC.  They said that we are not called to missions but to mission Presidents.  I know that I was called to president Hanks.  I have no doubt.  He has been such a blessing to me.  I have learned SO MUCH from his infinite wisdom and love for this gospel!!  This Zone Conference was his last one.  He leaves to go home next transfer.  The Conference itself was so amazing! My hand was cramping so bad from writing so many notes! At the very end he shared Mosiah 18:30 and replaced the word Mormon for Alabama. Look it up! I was overcome with happiness and joy and just a overwhelming feeling of love for my mission and my Savior.  I was crying like a lil boob.

He lives.  We are His disciples.  This is His work. Let's be steadfast in Him.

Sure love ya Molines Rock and Missionaries Rule!

Con mucho amor,
