Tender mercies and Chicatanas!

Hola todos!!! Its hot, its humid, and its really really rainy here in the heart of Dixie.

This week was FULL.  So much has happened. Both good and bad!  Opposition in all things right?

Well Tuesday was just one of those opposition days for Sister Frazer and I hahaha .  We originally had a full day of lessons and follow ups but they all fell through.  Except one! It was with a lady we found tracting.  She was busy at the time but invited us to come back. So we did!  We sat down and had an awesome lesson. I testified, Sister Frazer testified, we invited, she committed, and right before we were going to end with a prayer, her neighbor and her neighbors mother barged in and sat right down.  She asked us " Ya'll don't believe in Jesus Christ!  ******!! Did you know they don't believe in Jesus Christ??!!  Who are ya'll?  Why do ya'll use a different Bible? How dare you come into this home when you know nothing about what you have to preach. Show me in the Bible where it talks bout this!"  She was furious.  The spirit whipped outta there like there was no tomorrow.  I felt uneasy and uncomfortable.  All I knew to do at that moment was to be polite and bounce out of there because I knew if we stayed I would want to say something rude or try and contend with her. But she gave us no room to say anything let alone try and help her understand. Even if we did I knew in my heart she would not accept any explanation we had to give her.  I do not want to say anything unkind about this lady because she has as much right to believe what she does as we do.  We are not here to convince, persuade, or lure others into believing what we share.  We testify of what we personally know to be true and invite others to experiment the same way we have.  This is definitely not the first time I have experienced this type of encounter and I know it will not be the last.  But I am grateful for the Savior's example when He was faced with difficult questions or circumstances, and I hope to follow Him.

However, whenever we have days that are full of stuff like that I always know that something crazy awesome is going to happen next.  That is what I LOVE about missionary work! God is so keanly aware of us. It can turn on a dime.  You never know what to expect, who is behind the door, or who will accept your message next. We had some amazing experiences as well this week.  A few days ago we had a Spanish lesson with a lady named ******.  She was SO nice and we had a great lesson.  Before we left I saw one of our pass along cards on her mantle next to her television.  I asked her what it was and if she knew missionaries before!  She said no but that she got it from her Catholic Church! hahaha On the back was 2 sisters that served in Demopolis a year ago and who I know!  It was so funny and ****** just laughed and laughed and thought it was muy chistoso. Tender mercies!!

Saturday morning Sister Frazer and I, and the Branch Presidency went out to a neighboring city to do some service for an inactive member.  We built some stairs to lead up to her trailer.  And let me tell you it was hard!!  It also started POURING down rain after we had only been there for a half hour or so.  We all got soaking soaking wet.  But it was still a wonderful opportunity!
And it doesnt end there Peeps!!  WOW SUNDAY.  Sunday was such a blessing of a day! Specifically church.  It was so amazing!  Real quick background to the miracle story about our investigator, ****.  ***** lives in Greensboro (about 30 minutes away).  He found out about the church through his neighbor, Brother Bell, who is a member.  We have alot of members of the branch that live in Greensboro but most of them are inactive, because it is so far.  So to strengthen and help the members in Greensboro who are active and to also invite the inactive members to become active, the senior missionaries in the branch hold a weekly Gospel Class in Greensboro. Tony has been coming regularly and on Saturday we had a lesson with him.  **** is sincere and wanting to change and come closer to Christ!!  He genuinely wants to be better and to surround himself with good people.  We taught him about the Restoration, as we were explaining Priesthood authority, we told him that Brother Bell has that same authority that the apostles once had, he told us he wanted to be baptized and to receive that Preisthood Authority as well.  YES ******!  Because he lives so far away we cannot see him as often as often as we would like but we have a return appointment tomorrow and we are going to set a baptismal date with him.  WOOHOO.  And he came to church yesterday along with a guy named Chris!  Chris was a former investigator from the sisters a few months back but he moved to Colorado for a few months and just recently returned.  He is SO solid and told us he is ready for baptism! So looks like we'll be having a joint baptism here in Demop pretty soon!

See how that week just turned around??  I swear the Lord is watching out for us.  HE LOVES US.

Also chistoso moment:  Trying to find and contact a referral that our Branch mission Leader gave us.  Upon finally finding this house we meet a nice lady from Vera Cruz Mexico.  After talking for awhile about who we were she invited us in to eat some food she made.  It was spicy goat that was super duper good!! We were talking about interesting foods from other countries and I told her about a kind of bug that I had heard about that is very popular to eat in Vera cruz and asked if she eats it.  She laughed, went to the fridge, and pulled out a tub.  She opened it up to show me and there were thousands of little dried bugs inside!! They are called Chicatanas.  S. Frazer FREAKED out and screamed!  The woman laughed and popped a few in her mouth and gave some to her little 3 year old to snack on too! She told us to try some and I did!! Didn't taste like much but it was interesting!! Had to do it to say I did! hahaha

I love this quote that I found in my personal study this week!  "Although we do not have the opportunity to walk with Jesus Christ to Jerusalem, we can show our willingness to replicate that journey in our own lives.  Remembering the Savior's own willingness to sacrifice and serve in accordance with Heavenly Father's will can give us strength to "go, and do likewise"  (Luke 10:37)"

I love this work. I absolutely LOVE being a missionary for my Savior.  I love the people I have met. And I love God.

So go out and serve someone!!! Turn your ARROWS OUT.  Not just for a moment but forever.  We are promised that if we do, we will find ourselves, in the process.

siempre con amor,

DEMOPOLIS!

September 12, 2016

OH MY WORD!!!! Usually weeks go by so quick but this week, I feel like, has been going on for FOREVER!  I think its all the changes.  In companions, areas, and so on.

WELP  I am officially in Demopolis Alabama!  Before I go into much detail about the week I will explain the little that I know about Demop so far.  First things firstttt,  We are in a small English branch.  Since I have been here so far there has been good amount of Hispanics that we have met considering there's only like 7,000 people here in the town.  We are opening this area for Spanish missionaries, meaning that before we got here there was just the English sister missionaries along with the Senior Couple, the Jones. Hopefully all this makes sense. Our area is HUGE.  In our little branch there is over 19 zip codes.  19 ZIP CODES.  We cover a lot of small way-out-in-the-boonies cities ( I call them cities but they are just small towns, Demopolis is the only one that has more than one stop light)  they are Linden, Gallion, Greensboro, Cuba (not the country), York, Livingston, Forkland, and Eutaw.  Eutaw is pronounced 'Utah' hahaha  when I first got here and I heard someone was from Eutaw I got super excited and asked what part, and they just looked at me..."uhhh the small town??"  LOL at Sister Moline, new to Demopolis.
ALSO this is My new address. Send me some love if you wanna.....pls
1712 US Highway 80 West
Demopolis, Alabama 36732

Also funny story about that.  Our apartment here is in the same apartment complex as the Senior couple and the other English Sisters but our apartment used to be the Laundry mat so its its own seperate brick building.  Its a cute little house!  But its smaller than most of the apartments I have been in.  And we don't actually have an address or mail box but we are using the other Sister Missionaries' mailbox hahaha  Elder  Mason, the housing coordinator, calls our apartment the man-cave and told us that if any sister missionary can live in this place its Sister Moline. don't really know what that means....hahaha

I was super duper sad to leave Tuscaloosa and Sister Merrill!! We were together for so long and I honestly felt like I was leaving my Sister. But I know there is a reason I am in Demopolis, training.
By the way! My new companion!! her name is Hermana Frazer! And you will NEVER GUES WHERE SHE IS FROM.  Get this....the one and only Missoula Montana!  The one missionary in all of Alabama that is from Montana and I get to train her! Hollaaaaaa I about flipped a lid when I heard that and I am pretty sure she is sick of me talking about my sister and how she served her mission in Montana and is obsessed with the state.  Small worlllddd!
Sister Frazer rocks though, fresh from the Mexico CCM  and is ready to work.  She is still a bit shy and quiet but that will change:) She already loves Alabama and has learned, from her mission mother, the most important phrase of her mission: ROLL TIDE.

We have already been working super hard here in Demopolis and have met some amazing people so far!  Since we are opening up a new area we have zero investigators, however,  the English sisters have been teaching a Spanish family with the Branch mission leader's help who speaks Spanish from his mission.  ***** y ******.  I have met them and taught them twice, both times I was here in Demopolis on Exchanges in the past.  ****** is solid.  And Ready for baptism! However she has 2 kids and is living with her, boyfriend, ******, and have been together for many years.  We will see how that goes! We are seeing them for the first time this week, they live an hour away so its hard to see them regularly.  More details next week!

Emmaus Experience:
We have been hardcore finding mode the past few days and only one person flat out rejected us and slammed the door. ONLY ONE.  This is a miracle in my eyes.  The Lord is truly watching out for Sister Frazer and I.

Also!  We found this black guy in the ghetto named *****, we taught him about the Book of Mormon, he loved it!! So we came back for a return appointment!  At the end of the teaching him the Restoration we invited him to say the closing prayer but he expressed that he did not know the proper way to pray.  After we went through step by step  how to pray  He offered the cutest, simplest prayer ever,   He said " Heavenly Fatha...we're blessed...in the name a Christ amen."  He was so happy to hear about the Restoration,  we taught it in the simplest way we could, but we still don't think he understood it all. But he was happy to hear!

Lastly, Church was THE BEST.  It was so cute!!  The branch has such character. Everyone there loves the missionaries because most everyone is a convert. We have church in a super small church building, Sacrament meeting is held in a normal size building's Relief Society building.  About 35 members attended.  The Majority of the branch is black. I LOVE IT.
One of the members granddaughter, ******, got baptized after church Sunday.  After the 2nd hour, Gospel Principles, the Branch President, President James, pulled me aside and asked me if I would give the talk on Baptism for *******'s baptism! hahaha I guess that's just how the Branch works So I Happily obliged!!  It went good!!

Yall....this is the best.  Really.  Life is good.  I love what I am doing, sharing this beautiful message with everyone we meet.  Seeing people learn about this more excellent way is such a blessing.
Always remember the important things, the spiritual things, that are of eternal importance.

I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!
Love,
Sister Small town Mo-LINE

There's no place like home(TUSCALOOSA)

September 6, 2016

Another week bites the dust and we have some BIG NEWS. Transfer news.
Sister Merrill and I are both getting transferred!!  Two new sisters will be white washing Tuscaloosa!!  I am getting transferred to just 60 miles south to good ole Demopolis Alabama!  I will still be in the Same zone and even in the same District as Tuscaloosa.  I will be released as an stl, opening up a brand new area for Spanish sisters, and I will be training again!  I think I have told ya’ll a bit about Demopolis because I have been there a few times on exchanges but it is TEENY TINY.  I think somewhere around 7,000 people.  However we cover one of the largest geographical areas in the mission.  There are around 30 members that attend the small branch there in a small church owned building.  I guess there is enough Hispanics there to put two Spanish missionaries??????? haha I have no idea. I guess we will find out.  Also we are sharing a car.... so I guess I will be getting some nice calf muscles (hopefully) since we will be biking ALOT.  I am super excited for this next transfer in scoping out Demopolis and putting in some hard work in bringing more people to this beautiful knowledge of their Savior.  However I am also super nervous!  So I ask for your earnest prayers this week with this new transfer and many changes.  I definitely did not see it coming.
This week was AWESOME. In ever sense of the word.  Our investigator, Dorothy, is on baptismal date for the end of the month!  We were able to teach her the Plan of Salvation. She has been reading the Book of Mormon when she has down time at her work and just recently read 1 Nephi 4. She LOVED the story of Nephi killing Laban and told us that she believes that the Book of Mormon is true.  Later on last week we had a church tour with her and it went so well!!  You could feel the spirit so strong. We ended in the chapel talking about Christ, His suffering, the sacrament, and baptism.  We invited her to be baptized on the 24th and she accepted.  She is so excited to come to church this next week for the first time! Sadly S. Merrill and I wont even be here!  But we both know the new sisters in Tuscaloosa will take great care of her.
TED.  Our favorite person!! Ted but like I said last week, continues to come to church and even bore his testimony in Fast and Testimony meeting this last Sunday.  He bore a beautiful testimony and said that although he is not a member yet, he knows that Prophet Joseph Smith and Thomas S. Monson were and are prophets and the Book of Mormon is true. He also thanks us for teaching him. IT WAS AMAZING.  I was seriously blown away. It was so great to hear him say all that since it has been harder to get through to him these last few weeks. The ONLY thing that is keeping him from baptism is cigarettes.  He has quite coffee but he is really struggling with smoking. He has many friends in the ward and He truly does love the Lord. Sister Merrill and I have grown to love him so much.  He is a wonderful man and I know, will be baptized one day.

Although I am excited for the new adventure of a new area and new companion, I am sad to say goodbye to Tuscaloosa.  I am so grateful for my time and experiences I have had in the heart of Alabama.  Saying goodbye to these wonderful people that I have been able to know and love and serve is sad.  And to think, I am leaving two days before the first home game.  :'(  ROLL TIDE ROLL
Also I heard Alabama crushed whoever we played last Saturday in DALLAS! Shout out to my home.
So sorry this is short and kind of lame email. But I love you all. I am continuously amazed at the peace and joy that this Gospel brings to our lives.  I LOVE IT.  As I bore my testimony on Sunday in the Tuscaloosa ward, I was able to look out into the congregation and see these wonderful disciples of Christ, stalwart, and steadfast in His arms.  I know that a living prophet lives.  He is the mouthpiece of our Heavenly Father for this last dispensation.  I KNOW that if we follow Him and the teachings of Christ, we will never falter or waver and we will find eternal joy and happiness.
Con mucho amor,
